Organized in 1923, the North Carolina Medical Society Alliance (NCMS Alliance) is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization comprised of physician spouses and physicians dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of North Carolinians through community service, advocacy and fundraising aimed at promoting better public health. As a partner to the North Carolina Medical Society, the NCMS Alliance is also committed to supporting physicians and the future of medicine. Membership is open to physician spouses and physicians as well as physicians in training and spouses of physicians in training. Since the late 1990s, the NCMS Alliance has focused its efforts on educational programs dedicated to improving the overall health and development of our youth. These programs are featured each year in a statewide symposium with nationally-recognized experts on the forefront of child and adolescent development issues. Presenting topics from “Bullying: Stop the Bully Without Becoming One” to “Learning Differences: Ensuring Success for Every Mind,” the annual symposium strives to bring together teachers, counselors, policy makers, social workers, law enforcement personnel, parents, and others committed to securing a bright future for our children. The NCMS Alliance works to build effective public and private partnerships and develop resources for the annual symposium, the Get Fit NC campaign, the American Medical Association (AMA) Medical Scholars Fund and other programs to effect positive change across our state. The NCMS Alliance also supports county medical society alliances, provides leadership opportunities and training for its members and offers grants for health-related programs. The NCMS Alliance is governed by its Board of Directors representing all regions of the state and is headquartered at the NC Medical Society building in Raleigh. |
